The SCHMUN Conferences

The SCHMUN Walsh Conference is held at Walsh University and is a free, two-day event. Taking place in the state-of-the-art Barrette Business and Community Center and the Global Learning Center, the conference seamlessly integrates technology into each committee's debate. Every room is equipped with microphones and projector screens to enhance the delegate experience. SCHMUN Walsh challenges delegates to address pressing global issues across four main committees: the Conflict & Peacekeeping Committee, the Human Rights Committee, the Growth & Environment Committee, and the distinguished Security Council. The event concludes with an exciting global crisis designed to test each delegate's problem-solving skills and teamwork under pressure.

Lake Local Schools, along with neighboring Stark County schools, are proud to collaborate in offering students an engaging and challenging Model United Nations experience. The Stark County High School Model United Nations (SCHMUN) Conference brings together both first-time and veteran delegates in a dynamic learning environment. Founded in 2006 by Dr. Scott Waalkes of Malone University, SCHMUN was created to give students a low-pressure setting to develop essential skills in teamwork, research, writing, and public speaking. Since its founding, SCHMUN has expanded to include two annual conferences and three Crisis League events, continuing its mission to inspire and empower student delegates across Stark County.

Delegates from across Stark County and surrounding areas come together to debate, collaborate, and tackle some of the most pressing global challenges of our time. Schools compete in small groups to earn both individual and delegation points in this match-style competition series. While the SCHMUN Crisis League has a competitive spirit, its true purpose is to promote a supportive, professional environment where delegates can engage in complex debate with respect, diplomacy, and teamwork.

The SCHMUN Crisis League consists of three rotating matches hosted at different schools across Stark County, allowing delegates to experience diverse settings and connect with peers from a variety of districts. Each match presents a fast-paced, two-hour special session where delegates must respond to unfolding global crises in real time. Participants are challenged to uphold their assigned country's policies, negotiate under pressure, and collaborate to craft innovative, balanced solutions. Through this immersive experience, delegates strengthen their skills in leadership, problem-solving, negotiation, and public speaking—learning the art of diplomacy and compromise in action.

The SCHMUN Hall of Fame Conference is held in partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, taking place in the Nash Family Event and Conference Center. This unique event invites delegates to explore the complex global issues surrounding sports — from the impact of mega events like the World Cup and the Olympics to the ethical, economic, and social dimensions of international athletics. The conference features three specialized committees: the Committee on Opportunities & Health of Athletes, the Commission on Labor, Access, & Rights for Sporting Events, and the International Committee on Fair Play & Integrity in Sports. Through debate, collaboration, and critical analysis, delegates strengthen essential skills in diplomacy, research, problem-solving, and public speaking while deepening their understanding of how sports connect and challenge the global community.
